An actuary? What does an actuary actually do? The report “The Actuary, Professional and Competence Profile” (September 2006) adopted by the Actuarial Association gives the following description of an actuary: “Actuaries identify risks, analyse these for possible financial consequences and propose measures to manage and finance them. The most important technique is systematic future projections, making estimates, and translating these predictions into financial consequences....” Basically, an actuary is a creative professional who assists you in optimally controlling the risks within your company and who is very much at home in the interface of finance, IT, communication and HR. |
